Support & Contact

Last updated 22 August 2026 ยท version 2026-08-22

Roots is run by Daniel Ngabo, sole trader trading as Roots in Australia. There's no support queue and no bot, so messages come to a person.

Email: [email protected]. We aim to acknowledge everything within 24 hours.

Something in a lesson looks wrong

Every exercise has a flag button in its top corner. Tap it and tell us what looked off. That goes straight to our review queue with the exercise attached, which is far more useful to us than an email.

If you speak the language natively, the thumbs-up and thumbs-down prompts on unverified words are the single most valuable thing you can do for Roots. A lot of our content is still awaiting native-speaker verification and is labelled as such in the app.

Reporting another person

In the Library, every friend and search result has a report control. Pick a reason, add anything we should know, and optionally block them at the same time. Blocking stops that person finding you in search, adding you as a friend, or interacting with you at all.

You can also email [email protected] with the username and what happened. We aim to acknowledge within 24 hours and we act on what we find: a warning, then restricting features, then suspension, then closing the account. Threats, sexual content involving minors, and targeted harassment skip the ladder entirely.

Copyright, moral rights and takedown requests

If something in Roots infringes your copyright, misuses a recording of your voice, was published without the attribution you're entitled to, or is culturally sensitive material that shouldn't be there, email [email protected] with "Takedown" in the subject.

Please include: what the material is and where it appears (the language, the course, and the word or sentence); who you are and how to reach you; the basis of your request (you own the copyright, it's your voice, it's your moral right, it's your personal information, or it's culturally restricted material); and a statement that what you've told us is accurate.

We acknowledge within 24 hours. Where the request is clear we remove the material from the live web app within 7 days, and from the iOS app in the next release, because course content is bundled into the app and an app update is the only way to change it on a device. We'll tell you when each step is done.

We keep a log of every notice we receive and what we did about it. Contributors who repeatedly submit material that isn't theirs lose the ability to contribute, and we mean it: a policy nobody enforces is worth nothing.

If you're the person who contributed the material and you disagree with a removal, tell us and we'll look at it again.

Deleting your account or a child's profile

You don't need us for this. To delete your whole account: Profile, then Delete my account. It removes your account, your learning data, any child profiles under it and their data, and your volunteer recordings if you have any. We ask for your password first so it can't happen by accident.

To remove one child's profile without touching the rest of your account: Parent dashboard, choose the child, then Remove profile.

If you'd rather we did it, or you've lost access to your account, email [email protected] from the address on the account.

Questions about children and family profiles

The Privacy Policy has a section written specifically about children's data: exactly what a child profile holds, what it never holds, who can see it, how parental consent works, and how to withdraw it. Roots collects no audio from learners at all, and child profiles have no social features.

If you're a parent and something isn't clear, email [email protected]. Questions from parents go to the front of the queue.

Security problems

If you've found a vulnerability, please email [email protected] with "Security" in the subject before telling anyone else, and give us a reasonable chance to fix it. We'll credit you if you'd like to be credited. We won't take legal action against anyone who reports a problem in good faith and doesn't access other people's data in the process.
